GAYLE N. MANDELL FINE ART
BORN IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA, Gayle works in pastels. She studied art with Professors Charles Sibley and Ken Daley at Old Dominion University,
later continuing her studies in workshops led by Barclay Sheaks, Bob Willis, Fay Zetlin and other notable artists in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area.
Her first acrylic painting was accepted in the prestigious Irene Leach Memorial Exhibition at the Chrysler Museum and, following that, she became a
"regular" in exhibitions throughout the Tidewater area winning numerous awards in local and regional competitions. Gayle was a founding member of
Norfolk's d'Art Center, and opened her own gallery in Virginia Beach, VA in 1992 and in Mathews, Irvington & White Stone, VA from 2000 to 2008. Her
work is included in public and private collections throughout the United States. Gayle is represented exclusively by Lynn Friel of Limited Editions in
Heathsville, Virginia, and her paintings can be purchased at fine galleries throughout the East Coast from Virginia to North Carolina.

"My representational work has almost always reflected my surroundings. Although I was raised in Norfolk
and spent most of my time in that city, I always seem to return to the rural landscape and marshes,
particularly around the Chesapeake Bay region where I have spent my life. Perhaps the most important part
of what I do is to share with others the sense of peace and wonder that results from being in the natural
